Every Great Adventure Starts with a Party

In 2021, in a camper belonging to our friend Brian, a new adventurer joined the party.

Sam had been invited to play Dungeons & Dragons with a group that already included Jeremy. It was their first session together, their first time meeting, and—although neither of them knew it yet—the beginning of something much bigger than the campaign happening around the table.

The dice stopped rolling eventually. The conversations didn't.

After sessions, Jeremy and Sam would stay behind talking about games, the hobby they loved, and an idea they had each carried for years:

Someday, they wanted to run a game store.

It turned out they had been traveling toward the same destination long before their paths ever crossed.

Two Adventurers, Different Starting Points

Jeremy's journey through tabletop gaming began in 1992 with Dungeons & Dragons.

A year later, in 1993—the year Magic: The Gathering received its first commercial release—he began playing Magic as well.

That first year Jeremy was rolling dice, Sam was just being born.

Sam's path into gaming came through a different doorway. Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! were among the games that first captured his imagination, followed later by Magic: The Gathering and, eventually, Dungeons & Dragons.

Different generations. Different games. Different roads into the hobby.

But eventually, one table.

And one shared dream.

The Quest Gets Bigger

At first, the idea was simple:

Open a local game store.

Jeremy and Sam began talking seriously about what it would take to build one together.

But the more they talked, researched, planned, and challenged the idea, the more they realized that a traditional local game store alone wasn't the adventure they were actually trying to build.

Supporting two owners required something bigger.

More importantly, the tabletop community itself presented opportunities that stretched far beyond the walls of a single shop.

Players need places to buy games and products—but they also need places to find each other.

They need better ways to discover events.

New players need easier ways into hobbies that can sometimes feel overwhelming from the outside.

Local events deserve the same energy, excitement, and sense of occasion that make the biggest gaming conventions memorable.

Creators and businesses deserve better ways to reach the people who would genuinely appreciate what they make.

And players deserve a place built specifically around the games, experiences, and communities they care about.

So the idea grew.

And kept growing.

What began as a dream of owning a game store slowly evolved into Tabletop Treasures.

Why Tabletop Treasures?

There wasn't a prophecy.

No ancient parchment revealed the name.

We simply liked it.

Before Tabletop Treasures, there was briefly another name floating around the table—Pair-O-Dice Games. Nothing ever came of it.

Eventually, Tabletop Treasures stuck.

And over time, the name became increasingly appropriate.

Because the treasures we care about aren't limited to the things sitting on a shelf.

Sometimes the treasure is an incredible new game.

Sometimes it's a product from a creator you never would have discovered otherwise.

Sometimes it's finding a tournament twenty minutes from your house.

Sometimes it's finally joining your first D&D campaign.

And sometimes it's the group of people sitting around the table with you.

What We're Building

Tabletop Treasures is being built around three ideas:

Play. Connect. Shop.

We want to make tabletop gaming more accessible, more connected, and more fun.

That means building something broader than a store.

Our vision includes better ways to discover tabletop events, experiences that make those events more memorable, tools that help players connect with the games and communities they care about, honest coverage and reviews of gaming products, and a marketplace where players can find products worth bringing to their own tables.

Some pieces of that vision exist today.

Others are still on the map.

And some are ideas we probably haven't discovered yet.

That's intentional.

Tabletop Treasures has never been built around reaching one final destination. It has continued to evolve as we've learned more about the hobby, the industry, the people in it, and what we believe we can contribute.

The Adventure Ahead

Our ambitions for Tabletop Treasures are not small.

What started with two people talking after D&D sessions about someday running a game store has grown into a vision for a company that could one day serve tabletop players on a much larger scale.

We hope to build a thriving business.

We hope to create new products and experiences of our own.

We hope to work alongside local game stores, creators, organizers, and other people who make this hobby special.

We hope to help someone discover their first game, find their next group, attend an event they never knew existed, uncover a product they love, or simply have a better night around the table.

And yes—we hope Tabletop Treasures grows far beyond where it began.

But no matter how large the adventure becomes, we don't want to lose sight of where it started:

A camper.

A D&D table.

A new player joining the party.

Two people discovering they shared the same dream.

And the decision to see where that dream could take them.

The party has formed.

The campaign is just beginning.
